Chocolate chip cookies are my weakness. I’ve baked my share of cookies in my lifetime, but out of all the cookie recipes I have ever shared with you, these cookies are my favorite. It’s a foolproof recipe, that results in the best cookies over and over and over again. My kids LOVE when I make these and gobble them up just moments after I take them out of the oven.

Ingredients:

  1. Sugar – We use brown sugar and white granulated sugar.
  2. Butter – 1 stick of cold butter (no need to let the butter come to room temp!).
  3. Egg – Just one egg (can substitute this for 1/4 cup of unsweetened apple sauce.
  4. Vanilla – Vanilla is the flavor booster in cookies.
  5. Baking Soda – Helps keep homemade cookies soft and tender
  6. Corn Starch – Makes the cookies full and thick
  7. Salt – All baked goods need salt, it helps balance the sweetness.
  8. Chocolate Chips – 1 FULL bag of chocolate chips. Yes, you could use less… but why?
  9. Flour – I used all-purpose for this recipe
  10. Walnut Pieces – Optional

Recipe Tips

Do Not Over Mix the Dough – Overmixing will result in dry, crumbly, and hard cookies.

Do Not Over Bake Them – I bake mine at a high temperature for only 6 minutes. They continue to cook while they cool, but you can still eat them before they’re fully cooled for the softest cookies EVER!

I like to make mine using a combination of chocolate chips and a few walnuts (which are optional). These chocolate chip cookies are so soft, moist, and with a richness to the dough like no other cookies I’ve tried. Plus, there are no funny ingredients, no chilling, etc. Just a simple, straightforward, amazingly delicious, doughy yet still fully cooked, chocolate chip cookie that turns out perfectly every single time!

What is the most popular chocolate chip cookie? These are it! They are the perfectly chewy, chocolatey, ooey-gooey, answer to those intense sweet tooth cravings.
Servings: 18 cookies

Equipment

  • Baking sheets
  • Parchment paper
  • Two mixing bowls (one for dry ingredients and a larger one for wet ingredients)
  • Electric handheld mixer
  • Spoon

Ingredients

  • 1¼ cups flour
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ cup cold butter (1 stick of butter is usually 1/2 cup)
  • 6 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 6 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 bag semi-sweet chocolate chips. About 10-11 oz (or 1/2 a bag if you want less chocolate)
  • ¼ cup walnut pieces (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 475°
  • Prepare baking sheets with parchment paper to prevent sticking
  • In the smaller mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, corn starch, salt, and baking soda
  • Cut the stick of butter into smaller pieces (as seen in the video)
  • In the larger mixing bowl, combine the butter, sugar, brown sugar, egg, and vanilla extract
  • Gently stir the dry ingredients (flour, corn starch, salt, etc.) into the larger bowl with the butter/egg/sugar mixture (as seen in the video)
  • Add in chocolate chips and optional walnuts. Mix gently until fully combined
  • Using a full size spoon (tablespoon), make cookie dough balls and place them on the baking sheet
  • Bake for 6-7 minutes or until the tops of the cookies get golden/brown (keep your eye on them:)
  • Remove from the oven and let them cool. They’ll continue to cook on the inside while they cool
  • For the softest cookies, eat them when they are warm, not totally cooled

Notes

TIP: To make EXTRA LARGE cookies, double the size of the cookie dough balls using 2 tablespoon scoops and increase the baking time to 9-10 minutes. Makes 9 cookies if made larger.

  1. Great recipe! Loved these cookies! Followed recipe as written! Did not tweak. Raised eyebrows at temp but followed! Raised eyebrows at amount of ingredients! Now my new favorite! Will be making again soon. My husband loved them! Thanks

  2. I’m on step 6 and a little confused. Are we adding wet to the dry? Can’t wait to make these!

    1. Oops! There was definitely a typo in there – I’m the queen of typos! Add the “dry ingredients” (the bowl with the flour, baking soda, salt, etc.) to the bowl with the “wet ingredients” (the bowl with butter and egg mixture).

  3. Great cookies! My oven cooks hot so 450 for 5 minutes worked fine….it also might be that I make my cookies bigger than a tbsp😉. Tried to follow video, but too many ads and too many other recipes kept interrupting. But again, well worth it! grrrreat cookie recipe!

  4. Thank you. They look yummy. Do you recommend doubling all of the ingredients to double the recipe?

  5. Oh wow. These are amazing. It was a billion degrees today and I wasn’t going to turn on my oven but… it was worth the sacrifice of comfort for these lovely morsels of goodness. I usually tweak recipes but followed this one exactly (well maybe more chocolate chips). It may just be THE chocolate chip cookie recipe I’ve been looking for! The few left over may turn into ice cream sandwiches tomorrow! Thanks so much for sharing!

  6. I love chocolate chip cookies and I’m made 100’s over the years with many, many different recipes. These are THE BEST ones I’ve ever made. We have made them twice in a week because we can’t stop eating them. Our new family favorite. I do half semi /half mile chips but that all I did differently. Thanks for sharing!!

  7. I’m an everyday baker of cookies/cakes and pies…..THESE ARE THE MOST DELICIOUS CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES EVER!!!!!

  8. These are delicious. I also cooked them at 350 for approximately 14 minutes. They are divine!! Made them using applesauce- thank you for the egg substitute!!

  9. Great recipe! I was unable to get your print feature to work, however…tried from both phone & computer, and it shows blank.

  10. These were amazing! I loved them! The first batch I did was smaller because I like to test out baking times before I throw them all in the oven. 6 minutes was a tad undercooked for me but 7 minutes was perfect! Any more than that and they would certainly have burned but at 7 minutes they did not. Thanks for making my day with this delicious recipe!

  11. Is there a substitute for the cornstarch? I don’t usually keep that on hand but don’t want to change the consistency of the cookies.

The video automatically plays on the bottom right of my screen. I am using Chrome though if that makes any difference.

  12. I always combine any add-ins, i.e. chocolate chips, nuts, coconut, etc. w/ flour before adding. This cuts down on mixing time.

  13. I made the version with applesauce and since I only bake in my toaster oven, I reduced the temp to 375 and baked them for about 6-7 minutes. These got a huge thumbs up from my entire family. They are yummy both warm and cooled. Also, like a couple other people, I couldn’t find the video, or a link to it. I scrolled up and down several times, but it honestly isn’t there. I clicked on the little video icon on the side of the page, which takes me to your Youtube, but the recipe wasn’t there. Just wanted to let you know that you may want to repost it or add a link. Anyway, thank you for the recipe. 🙂

  14. These…are…AMAZING! Wow! So quick to mix up and 6 min was absolutely perfect!

  15. 475 is way too hot to bake anything especially cookies and cakes turn the heat down avoid burning I baked at 350 for 10 mins came out perfect

  16. Thank you so much for a great recipe. This is exactly the texture that I was looking for. The top crunchy while gooey in the middle. I used only 3/4 cup of chocolate chips.

    1. I use salted butter because that’s what I normally have on hand. Both will work!

  17. I admit that I had to read the recipe a few times to make sure I was using the proper amount of ingredients, but these cookies turned out amazing! I don’t like crunchy cookies, but the high temperature gives the slightest bit of texture on the top with the total gooeyness in the middle, it is unreal! Great recipe! Thank you!

  18. The recipe looks delicious but calls for 3 T of corn starch. Comparable recipes call for 2 t. of cornstarch and almost double the rest of the ingredients. I’m just checking on the amount of cornstarch?? Thank you.

    1. I had to try different browsers. The video finally showed up in my Brave browser.

  19. Is the temperature right? 475’ or 375’
I would like to make these cookies as they look delicious but I’ve never baked cookies at 475. Please advise. Thank you!
