January is THE BEST time to think about organizing, tidying up, and making things more efficient in the house. We’ve spent a ton of money during the holidays and, chances are, we have a lot more “stuff” hanging around from the gift giving season. What should we do with it all? How do we thoughtfully organize in a way that looks nice AND works well? Here are my favorite Organization Ideas for a Family.

1. Stair Buckets

We all know how much junk collects at the bottom of the stairs. They call them “Crap Buckets” to organize that crap (pardon my language…. but it’s TURE!)

2. Make a garage for kids toys outside

We needed this, like, yesterday at my house! Brilliant.

3. Makeup Brush Organization

My makeup brushes were starting to take over the drawers. Small ones were getting lost, brushes were put back in the wrong places, the drawers were getting dirty, it had just become a mess. Since we recently reduced the amount of plastic straws we use at home, I decided to use our straw dispenser for my makeup brushes! How brilliant is this? I can see every brush, the brushes have 1 distinct “home” now, and they are so organized.

4. Make a mobile rolling laundry station

Laundry – the never ending task! Seems like no matter how many times we try to get caught up, the pile of laundry just keeps multiplying! What if you had an area that would keep all your laundry and the supplies organized? And even if you had laundry, there would be a spot to keep it all. This Mobile Laundry Station keeps your laundry separated, so when you have time, you can tackle the pile that never seems to go away.

5. Measuring cup organization in the cupboard door

Who has a big pile of measuring cups and utensils? I do! This is a wonderful space-saving solution!

6. Chore Box

Uh Oh Chore Box! You left it out, so pick a chore to get it back. What a great way to encourage (and remind) your kids how to take part in keeping the house tidy!

7. DIY Rope Basket

8. Ribbon Organization

My ribbon collection had gotten out of control! For this, I used plastic bins with small wooden dowels. It’s ribbon perfection I tell you! Full disclosure: not shown are the 4 full baskets of ribbon I actually have organized like this LOLolol! But, don’t you worry, they are all neat and tidy in my office storage area now. I found that a simple spice rack is thee perfect size for organizing my paint and glitter. Tiered shelves mean I can see what I have… which means I’ll stop accidentally buying multiples… How’s that for a tidy tip?

9. Sew Pillows Together to Make a Portable Pillow Bed

Have extra pillows that are taking up space and sheets that you don’t use anymore? Consider doing this with them! If you don’t have a sewing machine or don’t know how to sew, that’s ok! You can easily make these with some Liquid Stitch (found HERE). Not in the mood to DIY once of these? You can buy them pre-made HERE. Don’t you just love these? Picture source unknown.

11. Make a Quilt with Baby Clothes

Organizing old kids clothes is so time consuming and the storage bins take up so much space! Consider making one of these (or having one made).

12. Hang Board Games in Picture Frames

If you have been around Infarrantly Creative for any length of time you know about my disdain for children’s game boxes.  They always get crushed and pieces get lost.  Well…here’s a little storage and a little art in one!  The game board storage art takes your love of games to a whole new level.  It displays it on the wall while serving as storage.

No more game board boxes that fall apart and take up space! Hang games in a frame like this and attach the pieces in a baggie on the back. So smart!

This is a great idea for teaching time management to the kids and keeping the family organized! Simply adapt it to your family’s schedule and routine.

16. Corner Stuffed Animal Storage

Here is an idea about using unused corner space for toy storage. It could be easily replicated using elastic cords and wood. It looks like it could store a lot of stuffed animals! Made by Charliene Millburg.
