How to Make a Red, White, and Blue Drink

Happy Summer!!!!

Some of us have been out of school for awhile, some of us are wrapping up school this week, and some of us are in school year-round. No matter what your schedule is, we all love taking time to enjoy life on the 4th of July! Today I’m teaching you how to make a red, white, and blue drink for the summer. This uniquely layered drink is so patriotic and festive that EVERYONE will ask how you made it! Best of all, it can be made as drink for kids or a drink for adults (with alcohol).

Ready to see how it’s done?

To make a red, white, and blue layered patriotic drink, you will need the following supplies:

  • Ice cubes
  • Clear cup
  • Cranberry juice (not the diet kind!). The more sugar content, the better.
  • SoBe Pina Colada juice
  • Blue Powerade Zero

The layering happens based on 2 things:

  • The sugar content of the juice
  • SLOWLY pouring the juices over each other

In my case, the SoBe (white juice) has the most sugar. You could put this drink on the bottom because the drink with the highest sugar will want to sink to the bottom of the cup naturally when layered with lighter sugar content liquids. But, if you’re super careful and want to make it in a red-white-blue pattern like I did, putting a red juice with high sugar content at the bottom of the cup will also work as long as you pour slowly. Stick with sugar free blue Powerade for the top layer. Since this juice has zero sugar it will sit on top of the other juice layers that have more sugar content.

Moral of the story: the juices with the highest sugar go on the bottom and pour slowly.

Directions for Making a Red, White, and Blue Layered Drink:

  1. Fill your cup to the very top with ice cubes (not crushed ice)
  2. Pour either the red juice or the white juice on the bottom.
Tip: if you want to add alcohol to the drink, add it to this layer at the bottom.
  3. Let that juice settle at the bottom of the cup.
  4. Add another ice cube or two into the cup.
  5. SLOWLY pour your next layer right over the new ice cube you placed in the cup. That ice cube will slow down the flow of the juice helping it settle on the layer below instead of mixing in.
  6. Let that juice settle.
  7. Add another ice cube or two into the cup.
  8. SLOWLY pour the blue layer on top of the new ice cube.
  9. Enjoy the drink right away or place it in the freezer if you are making them in advance. The freezer will keep the ice from melting and mixing the layers, but be sure to pull the drinks out of the freezer before the juice freezes all of the way:)

Isn’t that SO easy and neat?
