Ingredients:

This recipe is great because it only requires balloons and a few simple ingredients. Here’s what you’ll need. You can find the exact measurements in the recipe card located at the bottom of the post.

  1. White chocolate melting wafers – You could also use white chocolate chips instead.
  2. Sprinkles – You could also use crushed cookies, graham crackers, or even pretzels. Other small candies would work as well.
  3. Ice cream – I love Neapolitan ice cream but the world is your oyster. Grab your favorite flavor. Not an ice cream person? Try filling this sprinkle balloon bowl with cookies (like Oreos) or candies (Reese’s Cups) instead.
  4. Banana – optional for making a banana split.
  5. More sprinkles for garnish – Any small, sprinkle-able sweet treat will do here. Try chopped cookies or candy bars too.

Pop. Cut the balloons at the knot with a very tiny cut to allow the air to deflate very slowly and remove the deflated balloon from the white chocolate shells.

Variations

One great thing about these balloon bowls is that they are super versatile. Feel free to use any kind of chocolate (milk, semi-sweet, white) to make the bowls themselves. As for the coating for the balloon bowls, go nuts! Sprinkles are just one option. You can use crushed cookies, crushed graham crackers, finely chopped pretzels…you name it!

In addition, you can fill your bowl with whatever ice cream flavor you’d like. It doesn’t even have to be ice cream. Use these fun chocolate bowls to hold Reese’s peanut butter cups, jelly beans, etc. at your next party. The kids will love it.

Can I make this ahead of time and freeze it?

Absolutely! Once you’ve popped the balloons, wrap each chocolate bowl in plastic wrap and store them in the freezer. They will be happy there for up to 3 months. Please handle the bowls with care and position them in the freezer so that they will not be crushed by other items. Thaw the bowls in the refrigerator before filling them up.

Notes

Storage Instructions:
I recommend enjoying these sprinkles balloon bowls right away. If you don’t have enough eager bellies to consume them fresh, however, feel free to save them for later. Wrap each bowl carefully with plastic wrap (just the bowls, not the filling). Store them in the refrigerator for a maximum of 4 days.
When you are ready to indulge, fill the bowls with ice cream or snacks and add the banana and sprinkles.
My Chocolate is thick or chunky!
If your melted chocolate is too thick you can add ½ tablespoon of vegetable oil and stir well, this should thin it out. Melting wafers vary by brand so its hard to tell if one will be thicker than another! If your chocolate is chunky you may have overheated it or could have accidentally gotten water into the bowl. Both of these things will cause melted chocolate to seize up.
