A Smarter Way to Style Your Kids

Kids are always being taught to recycle, reduce, and reuse. The best part about learning to help our environment is that children genuinely respond and understand the importance of protecting mother nature. But, what if we took the concept of recycle, reduce, and reuse and taught our children how to apply what they know to their clothing? Do you think kids understand how to reuse clothing? You bet they do! If we get excited about helping Earth through making wiser choices about what we purchase, the excitement in young children will follow. What a smart idea!

Did you know that there is a fabulous upscale resale site that focuses on baby and kid clothes? It’s called Moxie Jean It’s the perfect site for moms who want to buy and sell high-quality, gently-used kids clothes. I was blown away by the prices of the name brand clothes they had available (it was hard for me to resist buying all of it!).

Moxie Jean passionately lives and believes in recycling, reducing, and reusing. While Moxie Jean is an online resale clothing store, I like to think of it as an online high-end resale store for young kids and babies. High-end is another word for upscale, which means your kids’ style will not be compromised by reusing gently worn clothing. In fact, I was able to purchase name brand jeans for my daughter that I would have never been able to justify buying full price. But here’s the deal, the jeans that were delivered were in spectacular shape. I would have never guessed that they had been worn before (not even once!). Instead of buying them for $70, I got them $14.99! With that kind of savings, we were able to get a matching designer shirt for just $10.00.

If you follow me on Instagram (which I love you so much for) then you know how badly I wish I could buy my own designer jeans at this price!

Lucky for me, I have two little ones to shop for. So once I picked out some adorable clothes for Stella, I got to shop for Mitch! He’s still at home with me everyday, so technically, school is out all the time (what a life!). I’m not able to find this brand where we live and if I happen to be out of town and find it at a mall, well, the retail price of these shirts are not realistic for me. Lucky, little Mtich got his shirt for $4.99. I repeat: not even five dollars! Say whaaaaaa?

So when it comes to shopping for kids clothing, and considering that we’re all still in the midst of back-to-school shopping (or does that kind of shopping ever end?) join me in making smarter decisions for your kids, for the environment, and for your pocketbook. Moxie Jean is all about Reduce, Reuse, Recycle – they donate all unpurchased or lightly damaged items to Kid’s Pantry in Chicago (where they’re based.).

I was so impressed with the quality and the cuteness of the clothes that arrived to our front door. They were packaged with a little elegant perfection and they arrived quickly! One thing I can’t stand is waiting forever for an online purchase to arrive. It was so fun to have the clothes that we picked out online in our hands within such a short amount of time! Stella’s Gymboree top still had the price tags on it, which meant that it was genuinely brand new but I got it WITH a matching skirt for $14.99!

Now that we’ve saved so much money on new clothes, we can do other fun things!

This year, moms can maximize their Back to School budget while still dressing their kids in the latest styles. From this year’s press release from the National Retail Federation about Back to School spending: “shoppers will spend an average of $231.30 on clothes, up from $230.85, and $124.46 on shoes, up from $114.39 in 2013.”

Yikes!

That’s $355 each family will spend on Back to School clothes! Smart School House and Moxie Jean will be giving away a Back to School Wardrobe gift card for $177.50 – the winner will be able to get a full back to school wardrobe for HALF of what it would cost new.
