Halloween Worm Ice Cubes

Halloween is the only time of year it’s socially acceptable to walk around your neighborhood in full costume and eat candy at all hours of the day. It’s also the only time during which creeping out your friends and guests is not only acceptable but encouraged.

Supplies to Make Worm Ice Cubes

  • Ice Cube Trays

  • Gummy Worms

  • Juice of choice

  • Clear soda of choice (or hard seltzer, vodka, champagne, etc.)

I prefer to use a low-sugar Ocean Spray juice in a dark red color (like blackberry, pomegranite, grape, or cranberry). They taste so good mixed with Sprite, Sierra Mist, or 7-Up! Plus, those juices don’t interfere too much with the taste of the gummy worms.

Begin by pouring juice into the ice cube trays without making them too full. Then, creatively place the gummy worms in the ice cube trays. Like real worms, they crawl and lurk in all different directions! Look how awesome they are when they’re frozen! My kids couldn’t wait and they grabbed an ice cube by the gummy worm and enjoyed the frozen juice all alone!

Transforming plain ice cubes into worm ice cubes is a quick way to create Halloween drinks. When it is time to get the spooky fun started, pour clear soda over the worm ice cubes. I LOVE how the frozen juice instantly turns the soda red (which is also creepy!).

You can either warn your guests that there are gummy worms inside their drink, or you can serve it to them and see how long it takes to be startled by the worms in their glass. This is the kid-friendly version, but keep in mind that you can also make this an adult beverage too by adding in a hard seltzer, alcohol, or even bubbly champagne into the glass!
