This strawberry Patriotic Puff Pastry is the perfect 4th of July or Memorial Day dessert! It is so easy to make, especially when using frozen puff pastry dough. We used a frozen sheet of puff pastry, thawed to room temperature, and scored the edges to create a border.

Red, White, and Blue Patriotic Puff Pastry

These puff pastry pockets are filled with red jelly and then they’re topped with blue sprinkles and white chocolate drizzle.  They’re for breakfast, they’re for lunch, and they’re for dessert!  And they’re kind of perfect for a patriotic holiday like Memorial Day or 4th of July or just a spring/summer treat. The little puff pastry gold stars are the perfect touch!

The 4th of July happens to be one of my FAVORITE holidays! Not only do I love that we get to celebrate our country and our freedom, but I love BBQs, potlucks, and get-togethers with family and friends! The recipe starts with a few simple summer ingredients that you might already have on hand. If you don’t have puff pastry dough at home, you can find it in the freezer section of just about any grocery store.

Puff Pastry

Separate the two sheets of thawed Puff Pastry on a flat surface.  Cut each sheet into 6 rectangles (about 3.5″ x 4.5″ each).  Then, use a star cookie cutter to cut stars out of 1/2 of the squares. Consider looking in your collection of Christmas cookie cutters and see if you already have a star-shaped one!

Place the bottom pastry on a baking sheet. I like to use parchment paper when working with puff pastry. Then, spread a thin layer of strawberry jelly in the middle. Be sure to not use too much jelly because it might spill out during baking. Plus, you can add more jelly into the star shapes after they bake.

Using a fork, seal the top layer of the pastry together with the bottom layer. Kids are great at this job! Aren’t they just so cute already?!

Next, you will apply a thin layer of egg wash. This helps seal the pastry shut and create that beautiful golden flakey color and texture. What is an egg wash? It’s so simple! It’s simply 1 egg with a splash of water mixed together.

Just look at how pretty they already are! Patriotic, 4th of July-themed desserts are super fun to make.

Puff Pastry with Stars

Don’t forget about the golden stars! On a separate baking sheet, lay out the puff pastry stars and brush a little egg wash on them as well.

Once the pastries are done baking, drizzle some white chocolate (or white candy melts) on top and add blue sprinkles. To make the red stars really pop, melt a little more red jelly in a microwave-safe bowl and gently spoon a little extra melted jelly into the stars.
