Last year we had a lot of fun making a watering can with fairy lights. This year, I decided to add a watering can centerpiece to our backyard for some additional fun. This can be used as garden decor or it can be used on a table. It’s just so adorable! This DIY watering can centerpiece definitely stands out!

Watering Can Centerpiece

I purchased a decorative watering can from a craft store. It still works as a normal watering can would, but it’s just a bit smaller. Whether you choose to use a decorative watering can or a real size one, the results will be equally as pretty.

Supplies Needed:

  • Watering can (any size)
  • Drill (optional for drainage)
  • Small flowers. I used Candytuft from our local nursery
  • Potting Soil
  • Shovel
  • Small terra cotta pot
  • Glass votive
  • Battery operated candle

Watch how we made it:

How to Make a Centerpiece with a Watering Can

  1. Optional: If you’ll be using the watering can as a planter, be sure to drill small drainage holes at the bottom of the can. If it’s just for short term use as a centerpiece on a table, the holes aren’t necessary.
  2. Place a small terra cotta pot upside down in the center of the watering can creating a stand

  3. Gently plant the flowers around the terra cotta pot filling the spaces in with extra potting soil (water if necessary)

  4. Put a glass votive on top of the terra cotta pot stand

  5. Add a battery operated candle in the votive for a beautiful glow

Turn on the switch and watch the watering can come to life with a gentle candlelit glow.

I would love to see this done with a colorful watering can and some colorful flowers as well. The options are endless! I love this time of year…
