Cuisine: American
Keyword: dog treat
Servings: 10 mini pies

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Sauce pan
  • Mixing Spoon
  • Mini pie pans or the pie tins from pre-made graham cracker pie crusts (remove the graham cracker crusts and save the graham cracker crumble for other holiday baking: pies, cookies, toffee, etc.)

Ingredients

For the pie crust:

  • 2 cups wheat flour
  • 1 cup unsweetened apple sauce
  • ¼ cup water

For the pie filling

  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 packet Gelatine
  • 1 (15 ounce) pumpkin puree
  • Optional: whipped cream

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350℉
  • Make the dough: In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, apple sauce and water. The dough will be a little sticky.
  • Press the dough into the pie pans. Tip: if the dough gets too sticky while pinching it into the pie tins, wash and dry your hands and start again. The dough is easy to work with when hands are clean and dry.
  • Bake the pie crusts for 13 - 14 minutes
  • Make the filling: Bring the water to a boil in a pan. Add in the Gelatine and pumpkin puree. Reduce the heat to medium and cook for 3-5 minutes, or until the Gelatine is fully dissolved.
  • Assemble the pies: Add the pie filling to the pie crusts.
  • Refrigerate for 2 hours or until the pie filling sets.
  • Cut, add whipped cream (optional), and let your dog enjoy!
  • Keep the pies covered and refrigerated

Notes

Tips for Making Pumpkin Pie for Dogs

  • Use plain pumpkin puree - avoid pumpkin pie filling (it contains spices and sugar).
  • You can use oat flour instead of wheat flour for a gluten-free option.
  • Top each pie with a small dog treat “whipped cream” look for a cute presentation.
  • Freeze for up to 1 month for a make-ahead treat.
