DIY Halloween Pumpkin Planter

How to make a Jack-O-Lantern planter basket with this fall craft idea!

Equipment

  • Basket
  • Pot of fall color flowers of choice. Lantana flowers are pictured.
  • Orange acrylic paint (or orange spray paint)
  • Dried wheat stems, sticks, or anything similar
  • Small wooden dowel or a wooden skewer
  • Green ribbon
  • Black craft foam
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue
  • Battery-operated lights

Instructions

  • Paint your basket orange (kids are great at helping with this part!)
  • Cut the wheat stems or sticks down to size, so they pop up just above your flowers
  • Using ribbon, tie the stems or stick to the wooden dowel. The dowel is what is going to stick into the soil, so have the dowel sticking out a couple extra inches below the stems.
  • Push the wooden dowel into the center of the potted plant. Adjust the bow so it is about flower height. The wheat stems or sticks should pop up just above the flowers
  • Cut out your desired jack-o-lantern face out of black craft foam
  • Using hot glue, adhere the jack-o-lantern face to the basket
  • Wrap small lights up the pumpkin's stem and lay out additional lights around the flowers
  • Turn the lights on at dusk and enjoy your beautiful DIY fall decor!
