Fried Mozzarella Sticks

Cheese Sticks Dipped in a Simple Batter and Fried to Golden Perfection.
Course: Appetizer
Cuisine: American
Keyword: Appetizer
Servings: 12 sticks

Equipment

  • 2 small bowls
  • Whisk
  • Frying pan
  • Paper towels
  • Plates
  • Knife
  • Tongs

Ingredients

  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup Italian bread crumbs
  • Oil (Enough to cover the bottom of a large frying pan as seen in the video)
  • Dips of choice: marinara sauce, ranch, etc.

Instructions

  • Cut the mozzarella cheese sticks in half
  • Whisk both eggs in one bowl
  • Add breadsticks to the second bowl
  • Roll each cheese stick in the egg
  • Roll each stick into the breadcrumbs
  • Repeat steps #4 and #5 at least twice until the cheese sticks are covered in batter
  • Warm oil in the frying pan over medium heat until it is hot (not bubbling, but hot enough to fry)
  • Once the oil is hot, reduce the heat to medium-low and place the prepared cheese sticks into the hot oil
  • Turn the cheese sticks over (about 2-3 times) until they are fried all around. This only takes about a minute or so because they fry quickly!
  • Place the fried sticks on a stack of paper towels. The excess oil will absorb into the paper towels

Notes

TIP: If you want to dip them into a pot full of oil, I suggest that you freeze the cheese sticks on a cookie sheet for 20-30 minutes first.
Be careful! When you’re working with hot oil,  be VERY careful when you’re dropping the sticks in and removing them. Use long-handled tongs and a gentle touch works well.
