Gray and White Bathroom

Hello! Today, instead of our normal craft or easy recipe, I’m taking you into a part of our home that we recently renovated. So, welcome to Smart School House (literally!).

Since we purchased this home a year ago, we’ve been working on it a lot. Don’t get me wrong, there were no major problems with the house when we bought it and it definitely wouldn’t be considered a house that needed any sort of flipping. In fact, it had always been well maintained and I know that the owners before us had regular house cleaners, so it was loved.

My only issue was that it was built in 1991 and styles have changed so much in the past 25-30 years. So, I was excited to get into this home and make it beautiful again! To bring back the shine, the light, and the life it deserves! You might have seen our kitchen updates here, and I loved it so much that I was inspired to make this bathroom similar. It’s not an incredibly large bathroom (which was helpful on our wallet), but now that it is done, it feels SO much bigger! Let’s get started!

Here’s a glimpse of the bathroom before:

and here’s what it looks like now:

My-oh-my what a difference two colors can make: gray and white!

Pretty much every part of our home is now gray and white now that this bathroom is done being renovated. There is something about the color gray that makes me calm and happy. Our gray and white bathroom is so pretty now! Bye bye old brown cupboards and brown floors. Hello gray and white marble and patterned tiles!

We framed the existing mirror, painted the walls, and installed new countertops, sinks, and fixtures. I love, love, love the farmhouse inspired sink in our kitchen so much, that I picked out coordinating faucets for this bathroom.

Keeping with my gray and white theme, I picked marble. I wanted to have quartz because, in the past, it was more cost effective for extremely durable results. But, it turns out marble was a better price and, darn it, I LOVE marble so I couldn’t say no to that!

We also switched the round drop-in sinks for a more updated look with rectangle under-mount sinks.

The windows also needed some help. After all, they were over 25 years old.

Installing new windows will help our energy bill from here on out!

So white, so clean, and so much bigger! Well, to be honest, we made one HUGE change that made the space much larger. We took the big step-up-and-in bathtub and replaced it with a shower.

That poor tub had seen better days…

I picked gray spa-like rocks for the ground. They feel SO GOOD on your feet when they warm up with the water from the shower.

I love that the darker gray color is a slight contrast from the other gray and white flooring. Here’s what the original floors looked like (everything was so brown and tan!):

Nothing was wrong with that floor, but I was ready to transform the look with two colors: gray and white!

I simply cannot express how much I LOVE this porcelain tile floor. Each tile is slightly different. They look rustic because they have a worn-effect to them. They have just a “pop” of style that the bathroom needed. In a small place, I knew to pick one area of focus. I’m so glad I went with these gray and white rustic patterned tiles!

After lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of emails about where I got the floor….
here’s where I got them from!
Specifically, I got the porcelain gray matte Marrakesh (not the glossy finish:) They are PERFECT!

If you’re considering subway tiles in your home renovation…

The newest subway tiles come in so many options! I picked long white subway tiles with a matte finish. Yup! The matte finish adds a very cool texture to the white and gray theme.

If you’ve never considered how much lighting can change a room, just look at this:

Updating a light fixture can sometimes transform a space! I picked this Chrome Molten Glass Bath Light for our bathroom. GORGEOUS! Talk about a facelift! Goodbye 1991:)

….and speaking of how lighting can transform a space, here was one more little change we made. This poor chandelier was worn out, burnt out, and out of style!

Look at how updating a light fixture makes a whole room more modern!

Crystal chandelier and farmhouse lights. Mixing glamorous and rustic for that perfect look!

The one small old chandelier let off a little light. But, turning on this beautiful chandelier at night makes my heart sing! It gives off the most beautiful light for the entire room!

  15. Wow! Your bathroom looks so beautiful! Love the gray and white! How long did the process take? What is the color you painted on the walls?

    1. It’s called a “pebble mosaic” design. I got it at a local tile store! It comes in squares (similar to regular tile) and our contractor filled it in with grout. It’s not uncommon material and I bet you can find it at your local tile store(s) too!

  16. I love this!!! Where did you find your floor tiles? I’ve been looking for patterned tiles like those and cannot find them. I’ve always been partial to black and white, but I am LOVING the gray and white!!!
