Clothespin Chopsticks and Fine Motor Activities

If you have young children, it’s important to provide opportunities for them to practice and develop their fine motor skills. Practicing fine motor skills means that children are exercising their small muscle movements in coordination with their eyes (like controlling small objects with their fingers).

I love finding cool products for my kids to play with that provide opportunities to teach and learn! I found THESE awesome Clothespin Chopsticks online and bought them right away. They are so fun!

For this game, I had my kids place these small plastic beads into colored cupcake containers. I bought these particular cupcake containers at the dollar store (man, I love that place!) but you can use any kind of bowl or container. They took turns, they made patterns, and they giggled a lot! The goal was to get purple, blue, and red beads into the matching purple, blue, and red cupcake containers. But, naturally this goal was modified a bit as we began playing. Moms have to be flexible like that, ya know? Either way, the clothespin chopsticks are FABULOUS for fine motor skill practice!

If you have younger kids or if you don’t like the idea of using plastic beads, I highly suggest using soft pom poms for this activity. They work just as well with the clothespin chopsticks!

You know what else is fun about these playful chopsticks, you can use them to eat too! Ha!
