The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, the flowers are growing, and we are happily discovering new ways to play! We live in an area that is filled with agriculture, farming, and earth-friendly living activities (like daily farmer’s markets and beautiful monarch sanctuaries). So, when we recieved our first box of Green Kid Crafts in the mail, we were in heaven! I love finding ways for playful activities to be educational:) Did I mention I have a giveaway for those of you that love educational kid crafts as much as we do?

Green Kid Crafts provides monthly activity kits, called Discovery Boxes, that comes in the mail. What does this mean for busy families like us? It means crafting, playing, and teaching is EASY! The heavy-duty planning of educational activities can be time consuming. But, each month these Discovery Boxes have simple to read and simple to understand instructions (high-fives moms!).

This month’s Discovery Box was called the Botany Box. We got to explore, play, and learn about flowers! Do you realize how perfect this was for us? Our Discovery box came with 3 full activities and each activity had 3 simple steps to follow. Plus, the box had the scientific supplies that were essential to the botany exploration process. Of course, you are more than welcome to supplement the supplies and modify the lessons however you want to (after all, as moms we know how important it is to go-with-the-flow when it comes to our kids).

We started by going outside and collecting our favorite flowers from around the house.

Stella colored her heart box and decided to put white rose petals in it. She was enthralled with the white rose petals! Their smooth texture and pretty smell really caught her attention. You can see she used the Discovery Box’s magnifying glass to really inspect her flower petals.

Next, she placed some of her favorite flowers in these pretty envelopes (she plans on giving them as gifts!)

Next, we dug a little deeper into the science of studying flowers! We talked about the different parts of the plants like the stems and leaves.

You know what the coolest part is? The Discovery Box came with kid friendly plant press materials. So, after learning about the parts of the plant (seen above) we were able to press our flowers and preserve them for later. We’re so excited to open the plant press up in a couple of weeks!
