No Carve Pumpkin

Written and Photographed by Barbara of Chase the Star

Hello everyone, it’s Barbara from Chase the Star, where I write about simple and budget-friendly ideas for decorating and crafting. I adore all things creative! I’m a working mom and wife, and when I have a rare moment to spare you can find me at the local thrift store scoping out the bargains! I’m thrilled and honored to be a regular contributor here at Smart School House!

Fall is in full swing and pumpkins are everywhere! This is my favorite time of year so I’ve been working on bringing autumn in to several spaces in my home. So far I’ve completed my Fall Mantel, and today I decorated a pumpkin, inexpensively, and without carving.

Carving pumpkins is such a fun tradition. We love to cut out faces and designs, clean the pumpkins out, and roast the seeds. After the seeds are roasted, we bake pies or cookies, make hot chocolate, and head out to collect leaves and pine cones. Then the kids drop their findings into a basket for Mom to craft with later! We anticipate this time every year, the kids love it, and it’s great family time!

The only problem is–the mess! Sticky pumpkin gets all over the place! It’s nearly impossible to get our 5 year old to not touch everything in sight with his little pumpkin covered hands. We still cherish this time and continue the tradition, but we wait until closer to Halloween to carve pumpkins.

Making ‘no-carve’ pumpkins is a great alternative-so simple, and even the kids can help!

No-Carve Pumpkin

Materials:

Pumpkin

Cutting Machine {I used a Cricut-Mini}

Adhesive Vinyl

Directions:

Step 1:

Choose the design from your cutting machine {I used the Fall collection from the Cricut Craft Room}.

Step 2:

Cut out to scale.

Step 3:

Adhere your cut-outs to the pumpkin!

Vinyl is a great option for this because it can be applied as easily as a sticker, and offers a wide variety of colors! I chose blue and cream to blend in with my living room decor, but the options are endless!

I can’t wait to carve pumpkins with the kids in a couple of weeks but for now these fun ‘No-Carve Pumpkins’ will look great inside and outside of the house!

Do you have yearly Fall traditions?
