Last weekend we put up our first tree here at Smart School House! It’s a brand new tree that fits in the spiral staircase of our new home. My most favorite part of decorating the tree was decorating this beautiful new staircase. I hung this gorgeous Eucalyptus garland for Christmas and I love the way it turned out. Now that our first tree is done, it’s time to decorate our second tree!

The day we decorated this part of the house was somewhat of a small party for just us. Imagine blasting Christmas music, bins of Christmas decor scattered all over the floor, and 2 kids in Santa hats staying busy in the midst of it. My daughter was dancing around to the music (repeating Ariana Grande’s “Santa Tell Me” over and over LOL!). My son unboxed the Christmas train that goes around the base of the tree and worked on putting that together. He also enjoyed staging some of our decorations:)

I created this garland by combining this pine garland with this eucalyptus garland. Both strands are just about 6 feet long each. It’s hard to tell from this picture, but it’s a rather large staircase. Once each garland was swooped and tied, I used 14 strands of garland (7 of each!!). When in doubt, always get more garland than you think you’ll need.

I love how the garland looks next to the new chandelier we got a few months ago. The garland isn’t overly “Christmas-y” and the bow adds just enough softness to the greenery. The ribbon is this 4 inch grosgrain white ribbon found here. I tied it along the staircase in simple bows.

On the other-side of the staircase I tied on gingerbread ornaments with smaller ribbon. I got these ornaments from a craft store in San Luis Obispo when we lived there 5 years ago, as seen here,  here and here on my Instagram way back then. Although, I think these gingerbread man ornaments would be just perfect too! We had a candy themed tree back then that was dreamy for any toddler, yet, all of the ornaments were unbreakable haha! I know the kids love seeing the gingerbread men as they run up and down the stairs. I think they add a child friendly touch to this eucalyptus garland:)

At the bottom of the staircase I added a couple more details to the eucalyptus and pine garland. I purchased these small fox wreath ornaments last year at Pier 1. They aren’t available but I think this fox ornament would still look just as adorable. Then I used a poinsettia clip above it. I love how it adds a little glitter to the garland.

This 10 foot ultra slim Christmas tree is new for us this year! Because of the spiral staircase, we needed a tree that would fit right in the center and Balsam Hill had the perfect one for us! I used a variety of large, medium, and regular sized ornaments found at Hobby Lobby. The shimmery white ribbon is wired which makes it easier for creating decorating the tree with.

A couple of years ago I wrote this post about how to put ribbon in a Christmas tree to achieve this look. I always like to add some sort of natural element to my Christmas trees. This time I used glittery white poinsettia picks, also found at Hobby Lobby. I usually use bows at the top of my Christmas tree, like this gold bow. Be sure to add 2 bows, one for the front and one for the back side of the tree.

My MOST favorite ornaments on our new 10 foot Christmas tree are these crystal mistletoe ornaments found here. I think they add a bit of elegance next to the ordinary bulb ornaments.

I’m sure I’ll be adding more and more to this tree as the rest of my Christmas decor from here until Christmas. It’s my most favorite holiday to celebrate! Looking for gift ideas?
