Instructions:
Begin by rolling out some sugar cookie dough on wax paper. We used pre-made dough but that is totally optional. Sometimes we use our homemade sugar cookie dough. To make the button cookies perfectly round and small, use a shot glass as a cookie cutter. You’ll need a shot glass that is shaped like the one seen above (which is a pretty typical shape).
Once the cookies are baked, use the bottom of the glass to press the center of the cookies down. Finally, use a straw to poke 2 holes in the cookies. This is easiest to do right when the cookies come out of the oven.
Once they cool, use twine or thin ribbon to tie the cookies together! So cute:) A few readers have suggested using edible licorice string to tie the cookies together. That’s an adorable idea too!

Equipment
- Shot glass shaped like the one in the button cookie video

- Use the straw to poke 2 round holes in each cookie
- Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet
- Once cooled, tie them together with baker’s twine
