Baked Meatball Parmigiana Casserole

Cheesy Italian-style meatballs smothered in marinara sauce baked until hot and bubbly!

Equipment

  • 8"x8" Casserole Dish
  • Baking sheet
  • Foil
  • Olive Oil (or non-stick spray)

Ingredients

  • 12 Italian style sausage meatballs (homemade, pre-made, or even frozen!)
  • 24 ounce jar of marinara sauce (or homemade)
  • 8 ounce bag of shredded mozzarella

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400°
  • Prepare a baking sheet with foil and gently brush it with light coat of olive oil using a paper towel. The olive oil works better than non-stick cooking spray in preventing smoking at this high baking temperature.
  • Cook the meatballs for 15 minutes (if using frozen meatballs, refer to the suggested cooking time on the package)
  • Lower the oven temperature to 375°
  • Prepare the 8×8 with a light coat of olive oil just like you did the baking sheet
  • Pour 1/2 of the marinara sauce into the dish
  • Add the cooked meatballs
  • Pour the remaining marinara sauce evenly on top
  • Cover with all the mozzarella cheese
  • Bake the dish for 20 minutes, covered with foil
  • Remove the foil cover and bake for an additional 20 minutes or until the cheese gets bubbly!

  1. I’m writing because when I saw the dish you were using I started crying. My first dishes were Corelle pattern you are using. Back in the late 70’s. They were destroyed in a fire. I’ve never liked any dishes I’ve had since.

    1. Debbie, while I can’t understand the pain you have gone through, I used this dish for a very specific reason. Nobody else knows this and I never expected anyone to notice! This was my Mom’s baking dish. She passed away on Oct. 13, 2011. When I photographed this recipe, I purposely used her baking dish. It means so much to me. BIG HUGS TO YOU! I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m so grateful that you noticed the dish and took the time to say something to me. xoxo, Kelly
