Our watering can with lights that we made a couple of years ago has been one of our most popular posts of all time. I’ve seen hundreds of pictures of that watering can recreated and I just love how much fun readers have had making them. When my daughter and I spotted this black watering can, an idea popped into my head! Halloween will be here before we know it and, at Smart School House, we get started with creating and sharing holiday ideas early. Today’s craft is for the Halloween lovers out there! This Halloween watering can with lights adds a spooky twist to the original. Pin and save this craft  for when you’re ready to decorate for Halloween!

This DIY watering can with lights is even easier to make than my original. This black watering can does not have a removable spout so making the lights cascade out is easy! You can get the purple string lights HERE and the orange string lights HERE.

When I got started, I began with a black planter and shopped for some Halloween colored flowers. I filled up the planter with soil as well as orange and purple flowers. Perfect colors for Halloween! It’s half beautiful and half spooky.

Making a Halloween planter

I left the center of the planter open for a small glass hurricane. I have been seeing some gorgeous homemade planters with a glass hurricanes holding a candle in the center. I thought it would be neat to add that idea to this craft so that the glowing lights light up the glass hurricane.

In this part of southern California, September through November are warm and beautiful enough to spending evenings outside. I know this Halloween watering can craft will be fun for both kids and adults to see! Do you notice anything creepy on the watering can?

At Michaels we found these gross plastic cockroaches. They are so creepy in real life! I arranged them looking like they were crawling around the watering can. The purple light strand makes the inside of the watering can glow, which is perfect for creating a spooky Halloween evening ambiance.
