Pumpkin Brownies Ingredients

You only need two simple ingredients to make this easy fall dessert:

  1. Brownie mix, dry mix only
  2. Pure pumpkin

Be sure to use pure pumpkin, sometimes labeled pumpkin puree, and not pumpkin pie filling. Pumpkin pie filling contains added sugar and spices that can change the flavor and texture of the brownies.

How to Make Pumpkin Brownies

Add the dry brownie mix and pure pumpkin to a large mixing bowl. Stir until the ingredients are completely combined and no pockets of dry brownie mix remain. The batter will be thicker than traditional brownie batter.

Line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper. Leave a little extra parchment hanging over the sides so you can easily lift the brownies from the pan. Transfer the batter to the prepared pan. Use a spatula to spread it evenly into the corners and smooth the top.

Bake for 35 to 45 minutes, or until the top looks set and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs instead of wet batter. Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan.

The Easiest Two-Ingredient Fall Dessert

When you need a quick dessert with very little measuring or cleanup, these two-ingredient Pumpkin Brownies are hard to beat. They are thick, deeply chocolatey, and so fudgy that no one will guess how easy they are to make.

Serve them plain for a simple treat or add a generous layer of Pumpkin Spice Buttercream Frosting to make them worthy of any fall celebration.

Optional Add-Ins

This recipe only requires two ingredients, but you can customize your brownies with one of these additions:

  • Semisweet chocolate chips
  • Dark chocolate chips
  • White chocolate chips
  • Chopped pecans or walnuts
  • Mini chocolate chips
  • A pinch of pumpkin pie spice
  • Pumpkin Spice Buttercream Frosting

Adding extra ingredients will turn this into more than a two-ingredient recipe, but the preparation will remain just as easy.

The Secret to Thick and Fudgy Pumpkin Brownies

These brownies are intentionally much thicker and denser than brownies prepared according to the package directions. Pure pumpkin replaces the usual eggs, oil, and water while adding plenty of moisture.

Using an 8×8-inch pan keeps the brownies tall and gives them their irresistibly thick texture. Do not prepare the brownie mix according to the directions on the box. You only need the dry brownie mix and canned pumpkin.

For an extra-special finish, top the cooled brownies with my homemade Pumpkin Spice Buttercream Frosting. The warm fall spices and creamy frosting make these simple brownies taste even more decadent.

Store unfrosted Pumpkin Brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days. You can also refrigerate them for up to five days.
