Happy ‘almost’ Valentine’s Day! I have to admit, Valentine’s Day is one of my very favorite days to prep for. The pink, the hearts, the cute treats that we give out just for fun…. we just can’t wait! In celebration of Valentine’s Day this year, we made an extra special Conversation Heart Ice Cream (that you don’t need an ice cream maker or) and, I kid you not, my daughter said, “This is the best ice cream EVERRRR!” One win for mom!

Conversation Heart Ice Cream for Valentine's Day! So easy and you don't have to have an ice cream maker to do it. My daughter said, "This is the best ice cream EVERRRR!"

We recently got an ice cream making bowl to go with our KitchenAid mixer. I waited and waited to get one because they are kind of pricey. “How often would we really use it?” I asked myself.

Welp, it’s been loved in our house for the last two months since we brought it home. We absolutely adore it!

However, you don’t have to have an ice cream maker for this Conversation Heart Ice Cream recipe! It will take a little longer without one (ours is done in 20 minutes), but still, don’t miss out on homemade ice cream just because you don’t have a machine! Life is to short…..too short people!

Watch how we made it!

As long as you crunch up the conversation hearts into small pieces as seen in our video tutorial, then they are easy to chew inside the ice cream. Fully sized conversation hearts would be a different story. So, be sure that you get them into small pieces to avoid taking a bit that is too hard (that wouldn’t be any fun!).

You Will Need

  • Conversation Hearts
  • KitchenAid ice cream maker (optional)
  • Junket Ice Cream Mix in Very Vanilla. I found mine above the Jello mix at my grocery store or you can get it HERE
  • 1 1/4 cups of whole milk
  • 3/4 cup of heavy whipping cream
  • Air tight container for storage
  • Small hammer or kitchen utensil to smash up the candy hearts
  • Ziplock baggie.

Directions

  1. Freeze your KitchenAid ice cream bowl for at least 15 hours
  2. Place the 4 glass bowls in the freezer for about 30 minutes
  3. With a whisk, combine the Junket Ice Cream Mix with the whole milk and heavy whipping cream until fully dissolved
  4. Put your ice cream bowl on “stir” then gently pour the mixture into the frozen bowl
  5. Let it stir for 15 minutes.
  6. While the ice cream is mixing, crunch up the Conversation Hearts in a baggie (as seen in the video).
  7. Add 1 cup of the crunched up Conversation Hearts to the ice cream and gently let it mix for another couple of minutes.
  8. Transfer the ice cream to a cold glass dish.
  9. Eat it right away or put a lid on the container and keep it in the freezer for later!

If you don’t have an ice cream maker, here’s what you will do:

  1. Combine the Junket Ice Cream Mix with 1/ 1/4 cups of whole milk and 3/4 cups of heavy whipping cream.
  2. Stir until dissolved.
  3. Pour the mixture into a 9″ x 5″ pan and freeze it until it is firm.
  4. Break it into chunks with a fork, then put the chunks into a mixing bowl.
  5. Beat the chunks with an electric mixer until smooth (about 2 minutes)
  6. Repeat steps 6-10 in the first set of directions above. So easy!
