It’s officially time to Deck the Halls! I am very excited about decorating for Christmas… especially this year! Today I’m sharing an amazing DIY tutorial for how to make Giant Jingle Bells using mixing bowls. They look so amazing and you can use them to decorate in a variety of ways. They can be hung by their strings, set around the fireplace, added to garland on the mantle, or even added to your Christmas tree! I can’t wait to show you how they’re made…

Giant Jingle Bells

If you’ve been a fan of Smart School House for awhile, then you know I’m a huge fan of DIY Christmas decorations and holiday crafts. I guess you could also say that I love making GIANT Christmas decor too:) It all started with my Giant Christmas Ornaments. Then, I made these beautiful Big Unbreakable Ornaments. Oh I can’t forget my Giant Lollipops… they’re so cute! It was only natural to find a new giant Christmas craft:)

As you might notice from the video directions for this craft, I got everything from Walmart. I would highly suggest looking at the dollar tree for silver mixing bowls. I’m almost positive I’ve seen them there before.  They also have great Christmas embellishments for the tops of the giant jingle bells.

Walmart will have the black acrylic paint, rope (or ribbon), as well as the E6000 glue. The glue will not be in the craft section. It’s an industrial strength glue, so you will find it in the hardware section. I love it for this craft because it keeps the entire bell held together since it’s so strong. Hot glue won’t quite work for this project:) Luckily, E6000 glue is simple to work with! Just know that you will want the glue to “cure” or dry over night before you can hang the bells.

Each bell requires 2 silver mixing bowls. Paint two lines evenly over the bottom of one bowl. As seen in the video, I made a circles and connect them to the lines. That way they look like real jingle bells! Acrylic paint dries pretty quickly, so next you will use the glue and attach the second (unpainted) bowl on top.

Glue on any rope, ribbon, and embellishments to the top of the jingle bells. The sky is the limit! I think I left my giant jingle bells quite simple… I always think lots of Christmas picks, bows, and other embellishments look so beautiful on anything this time of year. The sky is the limit so be creative!

Aren’t they so beautiful?! When my son first saw them he asked, “Do they jingle?” because he thought they were real. I didn’t add any real jingle bells on the inside since I planned to use them purely for decorative reasons. However, I think that if you want yours to actually jingle, consider tossing a handful of real jingle bells inside before gluing it shut. Sooo cute!
