I simply adore how dainty and delicate paper doilies are transformed into beautiful Christmas trees. We just LOVE Christmas crafts here at Smart School House and these Doily Christmas Trees have made us smile! Since we are anticipating spending more time at home than usual this holiday season, having fun crafts planned will be very important. What you will love most about this Christmas craft is that it is easy and inexpensive, and each tree comes out looking completely unique.

Doily Christmas Trees

They look so magical and festive that my daughter has asked if she can keep them in her room. I’d love to make a bunch more with either fairy lights or battery tea lights for our Christmas centerpiece. We sprinkled powdery fake snow at the base of the trees to make it look like they are in a winter wonderland. Adding small lights would bring the centerpiece to life!

Doily

For this project, you will need paper doilies that you can find in the baking aisle at any craft store. They come in a variety of sizes. I bought 3 different sizes: small, medium, and large. You don’t need 3 different sizes unless you want to make a taller tree that has a larger base (like I did).

Wooden Skewers

You will also need wood skewers as well as a styrofoam base to hold the trees in place. Begin by cutting the doilies in half. Then fold the edges over each other to create a cone shape.

After gluing the edges together, use a wooden skewer to poke a hole in the middle. Repeat this process for however many layers you want on your tree. Taller trees will need more layers. Make the cones smaller as you work your way up the tree. You also have the choice to use smaller doilies for the tops of the trees.

Using a hot glue gun, make little stopping points along the skewer to hold the doilies in place (as seen in the video). Hot glue works best because it dries so quickly. To make a taller tree, I hot glued two wooden skewers together and used the largest doilies at the bottom.

Doily Christmas Trees

Each tree turns out perfectly unique! Some are taller, some are shorter. Some are filled with lots of layers using different size doilies. Just like snowflakes, no two doily Christmas Trees are alike!

The stars on top of the Christmas trees are actually miniature ornaments! Craft stores at this time are filled with miniature ornaments and craft supplies that will look adorable on top of these doily trees.
